TalkAbility™ is a Hanen Program for parents of autistic children (ages 4–8) who are speaking in sentences and having conversations. It offers practical, research-based strategies that use your child’s unique strengths, interests, and everyday interactions to promote their social and conversational skills.
Want to Learn More?

Since your child is most comfortable at home with you, there’s no better place for them to learn.
TalkAbility™ empowers you with strategies to support your child’s social and conversational skills, then guides you in helping them apply these skills to make and deepen friendships.
How to help your child have longer, more
meaningful conversations.
How to help your child notice and understand facial
expressions and gestures.
How to understand your child’s perspective and
help them understand others.
How to be your child’s “play coach” to support
friendships.

FOUR KEY GOALS
Longer, more meaningful conversations.
Better understanding of social messages from facial expressions and body language.
Improved perspective-taking skills.
Stronger friendship-building skills.
Is Delivered
A consultation for you and your child with a Hanen Certified Speech-Language Pathologist/Therapist to identify strengths and needs.
A series of small-group parent classes where you learn strategies in a comfortable, supportive environment.
Three individual consultations during which:
You set social communication goals and learn strategies tailored to your child.
You are video recorded interacting with your child; these recordings are reviewed to highlight what’s working and what can be improved.
Your child is video recorded playing with another child while you coach and support them, with feedback provided afterward.

The TalkAbility™ Program is supported by the Hanen guidebook TalkAbility™: People Skills for Verbal Children on the Autism Spectrum – A Guide for Parents by Fern Sussman.
This practical, accessible guide is full of strategies for helping children succeed in social interactions with adults and peers.
With over 26 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Laura has dedicated her career to supporting families and children with autism spectrum disorder and social communication challenges. As a certified Hanen TalkAbility™ facilitator, she has guided numerous families through evidence-based strategies that foster meaningful interactions and communication growth.
At Paths 2 Communication, our philosophy centers on empowering parents as the primary facilitators of their child's communication journey. We collaborate closely with families to tailor interventions that align with each child's unique strengths and interests.
